Rising Stars: HOLLYWOOD 2012

As the year comes to a close, VPE takes a look at some of the top rising stars in TV and film. From blockbuster hits to indie sensations to our favorite sitcoms… who do you think is top of the crop?

After a critically acclaimed (and creepy) role in 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin, everyone was ready to see more of Ezra Miller. In 2012, he certainly answered our prayers with the recent release of Perks of Being a Wallflower, where Ezra co-starred alongside Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. With recent coverage in Nylon magazine and already a cover of Paper Magazine under his belt, we anticipate Ezra has a big year ahead of him. Next up, Ezra will co-star in Madam Bovary alongside Mia Wasikowska and Paul Giamatti.

Jane began her TV career with a small supporting role in Showtime’s Shameless, but it wasn’t until she landed the lead role of Tessa in ABC’s Suburgatory that she really caught our eye. This Emma Stone lookalike has already received a ton of acclaim – Forbes even listed her on their 30 under 30 list of young adults who are “reinventing the world”! Check her out next in Evil Dead – which will also co-star fellow Top Fiver Shiloh Fernandez!

Fun Fact: Shiloh was neck and neck with Robert Pattinson for the lead role of Edward in mega-hit Twilight. He ultimately lost out to Rob and ended up going back to his job as stock boy at American Apparel. Countless auditions and a series of small roles have finally helped boost Shiloh’s career and 2013 is sure to be a big year for him! He has nearly half a dozen films in production, including The East, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Ellen Page and Patricia Clarkson.

Ari has been the go-to funny best friend in several comedies, including What’s Your Number? and Celeste & Jesse Forever, but it wasn’t until the recent release of For a Good Time, Call… that she shot to fame as a leading lady. In addition to her work as a funny lady, Ari is set to try her hand at Broadway with an upcoming role opposite Henry Winkler and Alicia Silverstone in David West Read’s new play, The Performers.

You most likely recognize Skylar from his small, yet hilarious, role as Matt in HBO’s smash hit, Girls. You know – the funny guy that almost takes Shoshanna’s virginity? He also played the hottie love interest of Anna Kendrick in the recently  released Pitch Perfect. Before he earned success acting, this triple threat was working behind a deli in a health food store in New York City! He’s left his sandwich-making behind and now he’s set to star in upcoming comedy, 21 & Over which follows a 21-year-old med student as he parties hard the night before his big med school exam.

Which Hollywood “Up-and-Comer” do you anticipate going the furthest?
