Announcing We The Culture

February 18, 2021

We committed $25 Million to launch the first Black creator program at Meta - We The Culture.

We The Culture elevates Black creators to share their vision with the world, spark community, and empower them to build successful, entertaining and sustainable networks across our apps.

Our mission is to help creators, publishers and communities reach audiences and build their businesses on our platform, it's our responsibility to ensure we're supporting equal outcomes for historically-underrepresented communities. In early 2020, we established a dedicated team to lead this effort across our company. These initiatives have included a focus on growing and strengthening our day-to-day partnerships support with content creators who are focused on serving Black and LatinX communities, helping creators, public figures and media entities harness the superpower of their voices as agents of change and driving social justice, and founding an investment in Black creators to help elevate their vision for the world, called We The Culture.

This is just the beginning of our effort on these fronts — we have much more to do. While we eventually aspire to achieve this goal on behalf of many diverse communities around the world, we began with an initial focus on Black communities in the US. We’ll continue to look for opportunities to leverage the power of media on behalf of racial and social justice, and to amplify a wider spectrum of voices on our platforms.

Say hello to our inaugural class

We have announced our inaugural class of 120+ creators, and this will also include programming on Facebook Watch, from partnerships with production companies focused on Black creatives to bespoke shows like Chop It Up with Storm Reid, Dads Just Don’t Understand with Will Smith and Asking for a Friend with Vanessa Simmons.

We’ll celebrate voices from the Black community via We The Culture social channels across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Whether it’s music, art, poetry, Original programming, food and more, We The Culture will serve as a launch point for Black creators, and spotlight the beautiful, layered and expressive voices shaping Black culture and driving it forward.

We’re also supporting emerging creators and digital publishers across fitness, filmmaking, sports broadcasting, and fashion. Since June, we’ve invested $30 million in partnerships for hundreds of Black creators, and intend to elevate their stories in tangible ways, all year round.

Follow along, and stay tuned for more.
